Malakpet: The residents of Anand Nagar in new Malakpet division have been complaining about receiving of contaminated water from the drinking water pipelines for the last 20 days. The residents said that they did not receive any response despite several representations to the officials concerned.

According to residents, HMWSSB supplies drinking water every alternative day for three hours. Out of these three hours, the residents have been receiving contaminated water for almost two hours since the past three weeks. Since the water is contaminated, all of it is going down the drain, contrary to the slogan, “water is precious.”

“Recently, we tried to repair the pipes by digging up the section of the road where pipelines are passing. But then, we stopped the works, as the HMWSSB officials provided assurance of fixing the issue. The drinking water is getting mixed with drain water, which is of no use,” E Daniel, a resident of Anand Nagar, said.

The residents have been regularly complaining about the issue to the officials for the last 15 days, Daniel said. But, the issue is being neglected. “The water being supplied is equivalent to sewerage water. It is pungent in odor and it cannot be used for any other purpose. We have small children at our home and the water is not good for our health. It is affecting the whole colony,” said another resident.

Recently, other complaints were also lodged by other areas like Yakutpura over the supply of contaminated water. The areas under Talabkatta received contaminated water. The authorities properly diagnosed the issue. But due to the delay, the matter landed in the hands of a local politician who took up the issue.
