Asifabad: With the lone Congress MLA from the erstwhile Adilabad district Atram Sakku shifting loyalty towards the ruling TRS, the Congress bag of legislators will become empty.

A couple of days ago, Atram Sakku announced of joining the TRS for the development of Adivasis, tribals as well as the district. He even said of resigning for his MLA post, if needed and will contest on TRS ticket.

Political analysts observed that the political equations in Komaram Bheem-Asifabad district are changing. They felt Sakku joined TRS only to sustain his candidature.

In the December Assembly elections, the TRS won nine out of the 10 seats, as Congress candidate Sakku won from Asifabad by defeating TRS candidate Kova Lakshmi by a little margin of 171 votes.

Another Congress MLA Rega Kantha Rao, who won from Pinapaka, also followed Atram Sakku and recently announced of joining hands with the TRS. Both the leaders said their motive to join the ruling party is only to ensure development of Adivasis and tribals in their areas.

They supported their stand that TRS chief and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had assured them of solving all the issues of adivasis like podu lands, irrigation water facility to their lands, roads laying and others.

Sakku won from Asifabad Assembly segment for the first time in 2009. In 2014 general elections, he lost to Kova Lakshmi. But still he managed to get party ticket in 2019 elections and won the seat.

Recently the Congress appointed him as District Congress Committee president. Earlier he worked as Assembly Standing Committee Chairman, ST welfare committee, Tribal Advisory committee member of united Andhra Pradesh. The Congress leaders and cadre are a confused lot over Sakku’s resignation to the party.
