Metro parking spaces being grabbed

Habsiguda: The parking areas at Metro stations are losing its purpose with non-Metro passengers using the areas to park their vehicles more than the Metro passengers. The parking areas, especially at Habsiguda and Tarnaka, have become a haven for shoppers and near-by hotel guests. End-to-end connectivity is something that Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMRL) has given special attention to, and as part of the program, it has made arrangements for vehicle parking for Metro passengers. The facilities have also contributed in improving the passenger turnout for Metro. However, the facility is also being misused in some area and needs regulations. The residents of the surrounding colonies in Habsiguda and Tarnaka usually park their vehicles at the stations and go on Metro to reach their destinations. Most of them are employees, traders and students. They alleged that shoppers and others are occupying over 50% of the parking area by parking their vehicles. They lament that the regular Metro passengers are unable to find parking. The residents urged the officials concerned to take appropriate action against non-Metro passengers.
