Naidu faults YSRCP's claim of winning majority panchayats unanimously

Hyderabad: Exhorting people to elect honest and service oriented candidates in the ensuing gram panchayat election, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday exuded confidence that his party will clinch majority seats in the local body election. Addressing the press here, he thanked people for electing TDP candidates unanimously for sarpanch posts in 763 panchayats out of 2,594 declared. "It clearly shows that the Telugu Desam will emerge as a strong party in the local body election.

The YSR Congress Party's claim that it won majority panchayats unanimously was a false one," Naidu said and dared the party to come out with evidences on its claim. Naidu said the basic amenities like drinking water, sanitation, medical facilities, infrastructure and roads in the villages will be developed under the leadership of efficient sarpanches.

Stating that his party will strengthen the local bodies, once the TDP comes to power in 2014 election, by allocating huge funds, he said all powers enshrined in the Constitution will be delegated to local bodies to ensure the holistic development of the panchayats. Alleging that the present Congress government diluted Panchayat system by not holding the election in time, Naidu said that it was TDP which constituted village secretariats in 2002 and strengthened the panchayats.
