Society involvement to stop violence against women stressed
The change in the society should come from within in upholding the rights of the women, she said while calling upon the societal members to make committed efforts to prevent atrocities against women.
Warangal: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary and senior civil judge G Neelima has stressed on the need of society’s involvement in fighting against the acts of violence against women.

She addressed a meeting held here on Friday marking ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’. The meeting was organised by Sarvodaya Youth Organisation supported by Karl Kübel Foundation (KKS) and German Federal Ministry for Economic and Development in association with White Ribbon Society Forum and ASM College for Women.
Neelima said acts of crime against women were rooted in the mindset of persons, who disregard the laws. It becomes the duty of all to lend support to the women, who were victims of atrocities. Women would be subjected to violence as long as they were dependent. The women should learn to make effective use of available chances to grow in their lives, she suggested.
Noted writer and Kendra Sahitya Akademi award winner Ampasayya Naveen addressing the gathering felt that aggression and infringing on others’ rights were outcome of negative mindset. Hence efforts should be made to reform persons with such state of mind. He wanted the women and girls to get educated and grow financially.
Sarvodaya Youth Organisation (SYO) secretary Pallepadu Damodar informed that with the help of KKS they have been extending support to victims of violence at domestic level and outside. Counselling, legal aid, temporary accommodation, livelihood training and employment were being offered to affected women.
For that purpose, the SYO has set up Women Support Centres at Women’s Police Station in Warangal Urban district and at Town Police Station in Mahabubabad district. Women, who were in need of help could approach the centres, he said.
Earlier, an awareness rally was flagged off by noted writer Anisetty Rajitha at Fort Warangal. Nearly 400 girl students, women’s rights activists, the SYO secretary and staff took part in the rally.
Activists Dr K Ramalaxmi, ML Josephine, Dr Sridevi, M Sadalakshmi, M Manohar Rao, V Indira, Chaparthi Ravinder, A Sudhakar, Mohammed Akthar and others took part in the programme. They took a pledge to work for promoting a violence free society for women.
