Mahabubabad: To increase the living standards of families, who depend on fisheries, the State government is supplying fishlings on 100 per cent subsidy to them, informed District Collector Dr Preethi Meena.

She released fishlings in Pedda Cheruvu of Pogulapalli village in Kothaguda mandal in Mahabubabad District on Wednesday.

Speaking at a meeting held on the occasion under the leadership of Bhaskar, the district president of Mudiraj Sangham, the Collector said that the government was striving hard to uplift several communities by introducing various welfare schemes to them.

The government is supplying sheep to shepherd communities on 75 per cent subsidy and fishlings on 100 per cent subsidy to fishermen families. By utilising this opportunity in a proper way, people of these communities must develop economically, suggested the Collector.

The district is in top position in supplying fishlings across the State. Till date, 3.40 crores of fishlings against the target of 4.40 crores have been supplied to 994 lakes across the district. About 10,196 members enrolled in the 139 fish societies in the district and they will be given fishlings on 100 per cent subsidy.

Preethi Meena assured the members of fish societies that land will be allotted for establishing a fish market in the district along with conducting a coordination committee meeting with revenue, water supply and panchayat raj departments to solve their issues.
