Hanamkonda: Auto rickshaw drivers in the tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet were given digital identity cards and passenger boards by the city traffic police. At a programme organised at police parade grounds in Hanamkonda on Friday, the Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu has launched the distribution of ID cards and passenger boards.

Addressing the gathering, he said the initiative was aimed at making the tri-cities safe and secure place. He said the city has been witnessing rapid growth and has been gaining importance as heritage city. Large numbers of tourists from across the world have been visiting to see historic monuments here.

Hence it was decided to ensure safe travel of such tourists and local passengers by providing digital cards. All the details of auto-rickshaws and drivers were digitised and a card bearing QR code was given to each auto driver. The commissionerate’s WhatsApp number, emergency numbers and numbers of concerned police station were printed on the passenger boards.

The same has to be displayed on auto-rickshaws. It will enable the passengers to scan and to know the complete details of the vehicle and driver. It helps to easily identify the vehicle and driver in case of an emergency or if any passenger forgets his belongings in the vehicle, Sudheer Babu explained.

He told the auto rickshaw drivers to behave courteously with passengers and tourists travelling in their vehicles and earn a good reputation to the city. The auto rickshaws digitisation could help to create a sense of responsibility among the drivers whose details were stored online.

Central zone DCP Venkat Reddy, additional DCPs Muralidhar, I Puja and Ashok Kumar, ACPs S Shobhan Kumar, Rajendra Prasad, Prabhakar Rao, B Janardhan, Vidyasagar, Satynarayana, Sadanandam, and Srinivas were present.
