Peddapalli: State Women’s Commission Chairperson Dr Tripurana Venkataratnam advised the women to develop awareness on various kinds of opportunities that are available to them and to utilise them in a proper way. She inaugurated an awareness programme on ‘Women Acts’ by lighting the lamp at the Collectorate conference hall here on Friday and explained about Women Acts and their importance through power point presentation. The programme will be held for two days.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson advised the women to utilise the rights which are meant for them along with grabbing the opportunities that are provided to them by the government through various Women Acts to reach to higher positions.
It is the responsibility of everyone to prevent harassment against women, trafficking, physical and mental torture on women, she suggested. High Court Advocate ET Manjush explained about women rights in detail. In-charge Collector S Prabhakar Reddy said harassment and violence against women is still going on in the society despite serious steps being taken to prevent such incidents, due to lack of awareness about women rights and laws.
Women must utilise this type of awareness programmes to know about their rights, he advised. The organiser of Women Welfare Department Mula Viajaya Reddy, in-charge of District and Rural Development Agency Prem Kumar, District Welfare Officer Padmavathi, Child Development and Protection Officer Padma Sri, the DPM Ravi and Supervisors were present along with women employees.
