Warangal: The sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday took executive officer (EO) of Sri Bugulu Venkateswara Swamy Devasthanam in Jangaon district into their custody for demanding and accepting bribe from a person.

According to ACB DSP Kiran Kumar, the accused EO Cheruku Jayashankar, demanded an amount of Rs 50,000 from a photographer, Vaida Ramesh for issuing appointment proceedings to his brother Vaida Mahesh on compassionate grounds following the death of their father.

The accused official also withheld the payment of gratuity and ex-gratia amount pertaining to complainants’ deceased father Vaida Gopal, who served as an electrician at the temple located at Chilpurgutta of Chilpur mandal in the district and passed away in 2016.

Several appeals by the complainant Ramesh and his mother Vaida Kamala to the EO yielded no result. It was said that the officials at endowments commissioners’ office in Hyderabad told them that the gratuity and ex-gratia amount was released three months ago but the EO said he did not received any orders in that connection.

Vexed up with the EO’s attitude, the complainant Ramesh approached the ACB officials, who laid a trap and caught the EO red-handed while accepting bribe on Monday. The amount was recovered from the possession of the accused official and investigation under progress, the ACB DSP said. The accused official would be produced before ACB court at Nampally in Hyderabad, he added.
