Warangal: Activists belonging to AP Beverages Corporation Hamali Workers Union (APBCHWU) took to streets demanding scrapping of the tender system as they claim it would hurt the interests of the hamali workers. Under the auspices of CITU, hamali workers staged relay fast at IML depot in Warangal on Thursday.

Addressing the fasting hamali workers, president of the Union Ragula Ramesh took strong objection to calling tenders by the Corporation hurting the workers who were in service for over 20 years in alcohol import and export at depots as it would make them jobless.

Demanding recognition to long standing workers, he felt that the current official orders were made making their services unstable. He urged the government to stabilize their services and offer facilities like ESI and PF. Other demands include drinking water, toilet, cycle sheds, rest rooms, first aid boxes within the depot premises. CITU leaders Gade Mogili, Kalyan, GT Reddy, Palle Thirupathi, Dasharatham and others participated in the hunger strike.
