People walk 10 km everyday to fetch drinking water lanka2 Palakol (West Godavari): The people of Palakol mandal have been facing severe drinking water problem as the drinking water project sanctioned at Lankalakoderu village years ago remains unaccomplished. In 2007, under the Integrated Rural Water Supply scheme, funds to a tune of Rs 6 crore were sanctioned by the Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department for the development of a drinking water lake. The former Home Minister, K Jana Reddy, had inaugurated the project during YS Rajasekhara Reddy government. It's been six years since the project was initiated. The project was estimated to provide drinking water facility to 43,000 people in 21 villages.According to the agreement, the project which was taken up by a Hyderabad-based pipes company, was to completethe project in two years.People in the area have been trekking nearly 10 kms to fetch drinking water at present. They are pleading the government to complete the project at the earliest so that their drinking water needs would be fulfilled.
