Eluru (West Godavari): Five persons died on the spot when a speeding Scorpio vehicle dashed against a stationary lorry at Satyanarayanapuram village of Denduluru mandal on the national highway No. 5 in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased were identified to be the family of a jewellery trader based in Hyderabad. The five persons died were jewellery trader Rajinth Kole (45), wife Kakale (40), elder son Manojit (17), younger son Prasanjit (15) and driver Mahapatra (32).
They were returning to Hyderabad after attending a marriage in Kolkata. The bodies were shifted to the Eluru Government Hospital. Social Welfare Minister Pithani Satyanarayana who visited the accident spot was moved by the accident.
He directed the officials to complete the formalities as early as possible and arrange for shifting of the bodies to their native place in Bengal. As the national highway Number-5 is being widened into 6-lane road, more preventive measures needed to be taken to prevent such accidents, he felt.
