Travelling alone can be scary for many. There are a certain few people who learn to dismiss their fears and take on the journey of going solo. A dream for many, a reality for some. Women especially learn a lot of things travelling alone which they wouldn’t have even thought about when they would’ve travelled with a bunch of people.
It is important that one learns to step out of their magical world and face reality which is only taught to you by yourself during such trips. Growing up as girl, parents are overly protective of you. They are concerned about your safety and well being. It is not wrong but, as you grow older you have to learn to step out of their shadow. Why should you travel alone?
Solitude – Many of us love our alone time. No, we aren’t sad or depressed or anti-social. We just love being with ourselves and exploring our mind and body. There is a lot you can learn about yourself on a solo trip. ‘Introspection’ is the accurate word for this. It takes effort and hard work to try and figure yourself out on all levels. Only when you spend quality time with yourself do you realise the things you are capable of. This is how you step out of your comfort zone and increase your self-confidence.
Self-sufficiency – ‘Not enough funds to eat at a high end restaurant?’, ‘Can’t afford cabs?’, ‘Unable to decide whether to shop or spend that money on staying a day extra?’
Do not worry you will figure it out. This is what solo trips teach you. You cannot have the advantage of getting everything that you want. It’s time to learn about what you need and what is necessary. Solo trips help you become financially sound automatically. You recognise the value of certain things and how it comes to you so easily when you’re at home. But now your parents aren’t there to support you so you sub-consciously figure out a solution for everything and make it work in your favour.
Connecting while disconnecting – While you’re disconnected from the rest of the world, you start connecting with new people that you meet on the way. It helps building contacts and makes you feel happier and safer. Learning about new people and their stories gives you a new outlook on life and this is one feeling you wouldn’t want to trade for anything else.
Ultimate freedom – YES! Nobody tells you what to do and what not to. You are your own master! You decide the places to visit, the food you want to eat, the kind of transport you want to use and the other various things you want to do. There is absolutely no regretting over the decisions you make because nobody influences you. You do not need to conform to a group, comply with someone’s wishes are obey an authority’s demands. Isn’t that the best?
Now, looking at all these points makes you feel that solo trips are extremely juicy. But you need to beware of the risks as well.
