University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Thursday celebrated the 67th Independence Day of India. As per the University’s tradition, it was first celebrated at the Golden Threshold (GT) campus in the city and later at the Prof. Gurbakhsh Singh Maidan in the UoH Campus. UoH VC Prof. Ramaswamy in his speech recalled the achievements of the UoH in the last year and the prosperity in the campus which has on the whole contributed towards a better life on the campus. While emphasizing on the importance of the university in various fields, V-C mentioned the several awards and recognitions that our faculty and students have achieved in recent times and said that the students of UoH have the abilities to achieve greater heights and make a name for them. Prof. Ramaswamy asked all the students to be confident and work hard to excel in their area of research. He informed everyone that recently, University of Hyderabad, had been given the status of University of Excellence.

Referring to the campus environment and its biodiversity, he mentioned a master plan for the university including increased usage of solar power and talked about a future programme of installing many lifts in several buildings with the help of Ministry of Social Welfare. Prof. Ramaswamy ended his speech with a request to the campus community for larger participation in achieving a more active, open and transparent administration.
