London-based tech company Nothing appears ready to expand beyond smartphones and audio devices, with reports suggesting it is developing its first pair of AI-powered smartglasses. The upcoming wearable is expected to directly compete with the popular Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, signaling Nothing’s entry into a rapidly evolving segment of consumer technology.
According to a recent report by a famous publication, the company is targeting an early 2027 launch for its smartglasses. If realised, this move would mark a significant step in Nothing’s broader strategy to diversify its product ecosystem and strengthen its position in AI-driven hardware.
The development is particularly notable given that Nothing CEO Carl Pei was previously hesitant about venturing into smartglasses. Interestingly, as per the report, Carl Pei was initially reluctant to develop smartglasses. However, he is said to have changed his mind, and is now focusing on a multi-product strategy for the brand. This shift highlights the growing importance of wearable AI devices in the tech industry.
Staying true to its design philosophy, Nothing’s smartglasses are expected to feature the brand’s signature transparent aesthetic. The company’s products are widely recognised for their distinctive look, including the use of LED-based “Glyph Lights,” and similar design cues could make their way into the new wearable.
In terms of functionality, the smartglasses are likely to include cameras, microphones, and built-in speakers—features that mirror offerings from existing products like the Meta Ray-Ban glasses. However, reports suggest that the device may not include an integrated display, focusing instead on audio-visual capture and AI-driven assistance.
Like many current AI wearables, the glasses will likely rely on a connected smartphone for processing and access to cloud-based services.
