Apple may announce MacBook Air with an M2 chip at WWDC 2022

Highlights

Apple is now expected to focus on Macs during its annual developer conference, apart from, of course, its latest major software versions, including iOS 16.

It seems that Apple might finally launch the latest version of the MacBook Air at WWDC 2022. The company is expected to offer the upgraded version with its new M2 Silicon chipset. Apple was previously rumoured to launch MacBook Air at its March event, but that didn't happen. The brand only showed off devices such as iPhone SE (2022), iPad Air 5, Mac Studio, and more. Apple is now expected to focus on Macs during its annual developer conference, apart from, of course, its latest major software versions, including iOS 16.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has suggested that Apple is planning to "launch the next MacBook Air with M2 chips at the conference." While lockdown in China had complicated things for Apple, it is believed that the company will manage and soon release the new MacBook Air as some of its employees have been spotted using the M2 model.

It will reportedly get a major redesign. The laptop might have thinner bezels and may have some resemblance to the 16-inch MacBook Pro. One of the key highlights of the MacBook Air (2022) will likely be its magic keyboard, which will be a first for this affordable laptop. Apple has previously offered this with the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that pack the M1 Pro chip under the hood. The price for these variants starts from Rs 1,94,900 and Rs 2,39,900, respectively.

The MacBookAir (2022) is said to have a 13-inch display with support for 2,560 x 1600 pixels resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It is expected to feature a Thunderbolt 3 port as well as a Touch ID for easier logins and secure online payments. It will likely have stereo speakers.

At the upcoming event, we might also get to see a new Mac Pro, as Apple teased the launch of this product at its previous event. Apple is also expected to talk about its AR and VR project, but we are not expecting it to launch this year. Gurman previously reported that the company had delayed the release due to some overheating issues and software challenges. It was reported that Apple's mixed-reality headset may not arrive until 2023.

This year, Apple's WWDC event will take place on June 6 and will continue until June 10. Apart from the above-mentioned hardware announcements, be ready to witness the new software versions. Apple will likely preview the new iOS 16, and iPad OS 16. watchOS 9, tvOS 16, and macOS 13 software versions at the event.
