The last lunar eclipse of 2020 is special as it overlaps with Kartik Purnima on November 30. Basically, there are three types of lunar eclipses: total, partial, and penumbral lunar eclipse. A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, and the Moon moves through the faint and outer part of Earth's shadow.

As the shadow is dim, a penumbral lunar eclipse is often thought as a regular Full Moon.

In India, we will not be able to see it since the Moon will be below the horizon. Please find the details of Lunar Eclipse timings:

Lunar Eclipse starting time: November 30, 1:04 p.m.

Lunar Eclipse ending time: November 30, 5:22 p.m.

As per Timeanddate.com much of Asia, Atlantic, Australia, Europe, North America, South America, and the Pacific will be able to observe the penumbral lunar eclipse till the weather remains clear.

This year we witness four penumbral lunar eclipses. The last three occurred on January 10, June 5, and July 4. In India, people have several myths and superstitions related to eclipses, solar as well as lunar.

As per the Indian version during a lunar eclipse, a demon called Rahu gulps the moon. People believe that during the eclipse, harmful or negative rays circulate in the environment. That is why it is advisable to stay indoors and avoid watching the eclipse directly.

On December 14, there will be a solar eclipse that will be the last celestial event of 2020.
