Tirumalagiri(Suryapet): Farmersstaged a road blockade in Tirumalagiri town of Suryapet district on Monday protesting the alleged failure to fetch remunerative prices for their produce.

According to the farmers, their produce was fetching prices ranging from Rs3,300 to Rs3,600 per quintal until recently. However, they allege that middlemen have now reduced the prices to between Rs2,600 and Rs2,800 per quintal. This hastriggered widespread anger among thecommunity. The farmers expressed concern that the sudden decline in prices had made it difficult even to recover their cultivation costs. They said the lower rates would leave them facing substantial financial losses despite their investment of money, time and effort in raising their crops. Demanding a remunerative price of Rs4,000 to Rs5,000 per quintal, the farmers sat on the road and staged a protest, disrupting traffic on the busy route.

The blockade led to long queues of vehicles stretching for several kilometres, leaving commuters and motorists stranded and causing considerable inconvenience to the public. The protesting farmers urged the concerned officials to intervene immediately and take necessary measures to ensure fair prices for their produce. They demanded that the authorities address their grievances and protect them from losses caused by the sudden fall in market prices.
