Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court came to the rescue of the striking RTC employees, who had proposed to hold 'Sakala Janula Samarabheri' on Wednesday at the Saroornagar Stadium.

Though the permission for the programme was rejected initially, the government had to accord permission to Samarabheri following the intervention of the court.

The court had directed the organisers to hold the meeting between 2 pm and 5 pm without creating any inconvenience to the general public.

Earlier, the court asked the police to specify the reasons for denying permission to the RTC JAC to hold the programme and questioned where they would allow the public meeting in the city if not at Saroornagar.

The workers JAC sought time between 2 pm and 6 pm to hold the programme. However, the court directed the police to allow meeting between 2 pm and 5 pm only.

The JAC leaders said that they were conducting the public meeting only to highlight the issues of the RTC workers and instil confidence among them.

JAC convener E Ashwathama Reddy alleged that despite all-out efforts by the TRS MLAs and workers to discourage the RTC employees to take up the Samarabheri programme, they were determined to make the agitation a success.

The JAC leaders called upon the workers' organisations, employees and teachers' organisations to participate in Samarabheri in good numbers and make it a success.

Leaders of the several political parties, MRPS activists are slated to attend Samarabheri. At a preparatory meeting in Nalgonda, Telangana Jana Samithi president M Kodandaram said the workers were taking up strike with their genuine issues and called upon all sections to support the RTC strike.
