Hyderabad: The Habeeb Nagar Police on Thursday night took 8 Indonesians to Gandhi Hospital for quarantine as their counterparts who were detected positive of Covid-19 in Karimnagar informed the local police that their other friends have halted in Mallepally mosque.

According to police officials, upon receiving the information from Karimnagar police, they approached the mosque authorities and informed them about the Indonesians who were on a spiritual tour.

The mosque authorities then gave permission to police to quarantine the Indonesians. However, as the matter surfaced, rumours were doing rounds that many persons who went to offer prayers in the mosque have contracted the virus.

To counter the fake news of the virus spreading to locales, the secretary of Mallepally mosque, Salim Ahmed, said that the fake news is being spread purposely to disrupt the peace and harmony of the city.

He further stated, "The ones who were taken by the police are yet to be tested and their results are not yet declared.

If they are tested positive then the doctors will take appropriate action, but the rumour-mongers are trying to gain from the situation.

I urge the city Police Commissioner to take strict action against such perpetrators."
