Hyderabad: Hygiene has been affected badly with the garbage being left unattended in the internal lanes of various colonies in the city.

Garbage dumped in Gutala Begumpet, Kukatpally, Sanath Nagar, GTS Colony, Mothi Nagar and Karmika Nagar, is scaring locals. The foul smell emanating from the dump yard is spreading strongly to the nearby areas. People in the vicinities of theses places are afraid of falling prey to diseases.

"Garbage dumping in the streets of Film Nagar, Phase II, has become a daily routine. We, the locals keep waiting for garbage collectors every day. A bag containing offal of goat has been lying on the road for two days now. We request GHMC officials ensure the problem is solved," said Naga Sai Krishna, artist and a resident of Film Nagar.

Explaining the similar problem, SK Aslam, a customer associate at Tech M, questions "Why can't the garbage collection system be introduced in city, where every household could place a waste bin outside their house that can be cleaned on a daily basis by municipality?" Keeping environment clean is the need of the time and the garbage collection is happening only for name sake as internal lanes in the colonies are still stinking with unattended garbage, he added.

"We are deprived of fresh air to breath because of the toxic gases being released by the ever-growing mountain of garbage," said N Pradeep, an interior designer and resident of Silver Springs Colony, Quthbullapur, Chintal.
