Malkajgiri: Six years ago, the then irrigation minister Harish Rao laid foundation stone for starting road under bridge at Vajapayee Nagar, between Malkajgiri and Neredmet with an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh amid fanfare. The then local MLA Kanaka Reddy, minister for transport P Mahender Reddy, mayor of GHMC Mohammad Majid Hussain and MP CH Malla Reddy were also present on the occasion. However, the construction works were not started even to this date.
Commuters have been facing severe inconvenience due to closing of railway gate. Whenever railway gate is closed, hundreds of vehicles pile up on the road on two sides of the gate and often result in traffic jams. There were instances when ambulances carrying critical patients had to stop at the gate, resulting in life threatening situations. Locals, speaking to THI expressed unhappiness over the delay in starting works although Rs 32.5 lakh funds were already sanctioned for it.
Sagar, a resident of Neredmet, said that they felt very happy when foundation stone for the work was laid but strangely the works were not taken up although more than 50 per cent of funds were sanctioned. He said that they often get late to office due to the railway gate. Srinvas, a resident of Vinayak Nagar, complained that he drops his son at school but sometimes he had to wait at the railway gate for an hour at school hours. He urged the local MLA to take initiative to discuss with R&B and railway officials and start under bridge works at the earliest.
