Hyderabad: Rachakonda police raids two fake sanitiser units

Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team (SOT) of Rachakonda police along with Kushaiguda and Abdullahpurmet police and Drug Inspector of Ayush, Dr Balakrishna and revenue officials of Kapra district on Tuesday night raided a duplicate hand sanitizer unit in Cherlapally and seized the material worth Rs. 40 lakhs from their possession.
According to police, they received a tip-off about the company manufacturing the duplicate hand sanitizers. Upon receiving the information, the cops along with health and revenue officials conducted a raid and seized the spurious products.
The accused persons were identified as, Krishna Kiran, Venkata Subramanyam and Vishwanath.
The Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, Mahesh Bhagwat, said that, the main accused Krishna Kiran was the Managing Director for Ayush Softgel and was in the business of manufacturing sanitizer from 2018.
He said, "the accused person, did not take any relevant permission from the health department before starting the business. Now, as the demand for hand sanitizers had grown he thought of cashing on this opportunity and started selling the hand sanitizers at huge margin."
The accused has so far manufactured various brands, i.e., Semuns Cleamsem Hand Sanitizer, SEMUNS Coclean 19 hand sanitizer and Medipro Hand sanitizer and marketed these products in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Till now, the accused has manufactured and marketed 1 lakh bottles of duplicate sanitizers worth Rs.1.44 crore, said the officer.
The arrests were made under section 188, 420, 120 (b) of IPC and section 6(A) of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, section 33E, EE, EEC of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940, section 54 of Disaster Management Act 2005.
In the second case, the SOT of Rachakonda along with Abdullahpurmet police raided a unit in Cherlapally and arrested three persons.
The arrested ones were identified as, Chandan Prajwani, Anil Kumar and Bommu Shanker and recovered the seized the entire material worth Rs. 10 lakhs from their possession.
According to police, the accused were involved in manufacturing of duplicate hand sanitizers and were distributing in the market. Upon receiving the information, a raid was conducted and the entire material was seized.
