Hyderabad: The young members of NGO Seva Foundation have launched a campaign exhorting people not to buy new clothes for Ramzan, instead help the needy to buy essentials.

The group of young men have been working with NGOs in distribution of ration kits to the needy in several colonies in Nampally constituency for the past few days,

The team covered several colonies in Nampally, Mallepally, Afzalsagar and Owasipura near Masab Tank. Shaik Shiraj, vice president of Seva Foundation, said, "Besides generating awareness at ground level, it was high time the loudspeakers of mosques were utilised for this purpose.

We shall be taking up the matter with mosque committees to utilise loudspeakers to discourage households from spending on new clothes," he said.

The team comprising K Shiva Kumar, Ramprasad, Gyaneshwar, Rajashekhar, Tarun, Kishore, Kashinath and Praveen Yadav along with Shaik are meeting heads and the elderly in localities to impress upon them and create awareness about the campaign.

They formed four committees with 15-20 members and are approaching people to explain about the most important issue now in the times of crises.

Meanwhile at New Lad Bazaar, some of the cloth merchants decided to remain closed till end of Ramzan.

"We are closed now and shall open only after Eid. When you can leave mosques empty, then why not markets," reads the message on a shutter of a clothes showroom.
