Khammam: Anganwadis told to propagate importance of balanced diet
Collector RV Karnan on Thursday ordered the Education and the Health departments to implement Poshan Abhiyan programme effectively in the district by coordinating with each other. On Thursday, the Collector conducted a review meeting with the Health department officials and others at the Collectorate.
Khammam: Collector RV Karnan on Thursday ordered the Education and the Health departments to implement Poshan Abhiyan programme effectively in the district by coordinating with each other. The Collector directed the officials to conduct several programmes under Poshan Abhiyan for preventing malnutrition in children besides creating awareness among pregnant women about eating a balanced diet to prevent the birth of underweight babies.
The collector also stated that as part of the programme, Anganwadi workers should visit every house in villages and educate people about the importance of mother's milk. He also suggested the Anganwadi workers to identify those suffering from malnutrition during their visit and distribute necessary medicines and nutritional supplements. The importance of a balanced diet and the need for hygiene should be explained to women, he said.
Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Priyanka, District Welfare Officer Varalaxmi, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Kalavathibai, District Educational Officer Madan Mohan, Dr Venkateswarlu, Dr Krupa Usha Sri and officials of concerned department attended the meeting.
