Marellapadu Lift Irrigation Project launched

Kothagudem: The Marellapadu Lift Irrigation scheme, taken up as part of the Sitarama Project, was inaugurated in Ashwapuram mandal of the district on Wednesday, bringing relief to farmers who had been awaiting irrigation facilities for several years.

The lift irrigation scheme is expected to provide irrigation benefits to several thousand acres in Ashwapuram and other parts of the Pinapaka Assembly constituency, strengthening irrigation security for the farming community.

Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, Mahabubabad MP Porika Balram Naik, MLAs Payam Venkateswarlu, Tellam Venkatrao, Koram Kanakaiah and Jare Adinarayana, along with the district Collector, Sub-Collector, DFO, irrigation officials and public representatives, attended the inauguration.

Speaking on the occasion, Pinapaka MLA Payam Venkateswarlu said the commissioning of the lift irrigation scheme was a significant development for farmers in the constituency. He said the long-pending demand for assured irrigation had now been addressed through the project.

He said the availability of irrigation water would reduce farmers’ dependence on rainfall and could help expand cultivation and improve agricultural production. Improved irrigation facilities would also contribute to the rural economy by supporting farming and allied activities, he added.

The MLA said the Sitarama Project would enable greater utilisation of Godavari waters for agricultural purposes and provide long-term benefits to farmers in Pinapaka constituency.

The increased availability of irrigation water in ayacut areas, particularly in Ashwapuram mandal, would enable farmers to take up cultivation on a wider scale, he said, adding that efforts would continue to strengthen irrigation infrastructure and support agricultural development.

A large number of farmers, local residents, Congress leaders, elected representatives, former public representatives, senior leaders, youth and women leaders and party workers attended the programme.
