MLA, MP promise fair compensation to Kudikilla farmers losing lands to PRRLI in Nagarkurnool

Nagarkurnool: Kollapur MLA Harshavardhan Reddy, while taking part in the general body meeting of Kollapur Mandal Parishad on Thursday, assured that the farmers who were losing their lands under Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project would be paid adequate compensation on par with oustees of other projects in the State.

The MLA also took up the issues of farmers with the Nagarkurnool MP Potuganti Ramulu, who also assured that he would take the issue to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and ensure that farmers get justice.

Earlier, the farmers in Kudikilla village supported by CPM farmer association members staged a protest in Peddakottapally mandal in Nagarkurnool district and blocked the roads demanding the State government to halt the PRRLI project works in Kudikilla village. The CPM members alleged that no farmer in the region was willing to give away his land, but the government was taking it away forcefully.

"Thousands of farmers are being thrown onto the roads as the government is taking away their lands forcefully in the name of canals and project works. We have been demanding the government to first provide full rehabilitation and also provide them agriculture land at some other place so that they can make their living. However, the government is adopting dictatorial and suppressive policies," said the protesting members.

However, the Peddakottapally police acted in time and foiled the efforts of CPM members to block the highway and arrested them.

Taking the incidents of protests into consideration, the Kollapur MLA along with Nagarkurnool MP raised the farmers issues at the Kollapur Mandal Parishad general body meeting and assured the farmers that he would take it to the government and provide them justice as early as possible.
