Never had such a bad experience in Nizamabad

Nizamabad: The delay of southwest monsoon is affecting the morale of farmers of Nizamabad district. The rainy season began with a dry spell. The raindrops didn't even make the land damp in Mosra mandal in the district.

As of June 18, normally the district's average rainfall is 98.2 mm. But it is looks like that Nizamabad district will have a large deficiency in rainfall. So far 10.9 mm is the actual average rainfall received by Nizamabad. The normal rainfall of Kammarpalli mandal is 108 mm but it received 30 mm rainfall only. But the same mandal had received 120 mm rainfall last year on this day (June 18). It looks like this year, Kammarpalli mandal may have about 72% deficit rainfall.

Kammarpalli got highest rainfall in the district. Second highest rainfall was received by Navipet mandal, i.e., 21.7 mm as on June 18 this year against the normal rainfall of 93.7 mm.

In the last 70 years, for the first time such a situation formed in Nizamabad district. A 75-year-old farmer from Armoor, Gundu Venkanna Patel said that he never had such a bad experience in his life. The total agricultural area in Nizamabad district is 3,40,764 hectares. Of this, 1,15,825 acres are cultivated with Nizam Sagar Dam water. Similarly, 53,793 acres are cultivated with Alisagar Lift Irrigation Project, 38,795 acres are cultivated with Argul Rajaram Gupta Lift Irrigation Project, and the remaining land is being cultivated under medium and minor irrigation projects.

With scanty and delayed rains farmers did not take up sowing of seeds anywhere in the district. Maize, rice and turmeric are the major crops in the district. After a long time, the farmers are afraid to sow till date under 2,576 tanks and ponds that have an ayacut area of 1,45,427.94 acres, as they suspect of drought condition in Nizamabad district.
