Bhupalpally: In a gruesome incident, an octogenarian was murdered and his genitals were cut off by unidentified person at Malawada village under Ganapuram mandal on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The victim, Jukanti Sammaiah (85), who lives with his grandson, was sleeping outside their house when the incident occurred. The assailant slit the old man's throat and stabbed several times besides cutting off his genitals. The assailant also attacked Bolla Rajamma (90), who is living next door, injuring her severely. The attacker, who entered the house of Rajamma by removing roof tiles, tried to kill her by strangling. When she fell, the attacker left the house believing that she had died.

The police suspected it as the work of a mentally unstable person as there was no effort to burgle both the houses. Superintendent of Police R Bhaskaran inspected the scene of offence. Sub-inspector V Govardhan registered a case. The police are examining the CCTV footage available in the locality.
