Munugodu (Nalgonda): In a gruesome incident, parents with their son tried to kill their daughter after she sought property to marry the man her parents suggest. The incident took place at Elgalagudem of Munugodu mandal in the district on Friday. According to sources and the police, Tirupari Buchaiah and Laxmamma were blessed with four daughters and a son.

They performed the marriages of three elder girls and the son and were getting ready to marry off their youngest daughter Kavitha, who finished her graduation in MSc Chemistry last year.

However, Kavitha has been urging their parents either marry her to a government employee or register 2 acres of land in her name to lead a better life after the marriage with the person of her parent's choice. However, her parents had put down her request. Soon, she approached the local police who also suggested the parents to part away with the land. Irate over this, Kavitha's parents and her brother planned to eliminate her as they would not have to part with the land or give the dowry.

Implementing their plan, Buchaiah, Laxmamma and their son Govardhan attacked Kavitha with sticks and stones when she was asleep on Friday early hours. Assuming that Kavitha was died, they threw her body into bushes near their residence. However, the neighbours who woke up due to the screams of the girl rescued her and informed the same to the police.

The police rushed to the spot and after examining her pulse, shifted Kavitha to district government hospital in Nalgonda for treatment. She has been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the hospital. Meanwhile, the Munugodu police based on the complaint by Kavitha, registered cases against her parents and brother under Section 307 of IPC and took up the investigation.
