Hyderabad: On the tip off, the Malkajgiri zone SOT under Rachakonda Police Commissionerate on Friday conducted raids on warehouses at SV Nagar in Nagaram and arrested five accused on charge of diversion of rice meant for public distribution system. The police also seized 40 tonnes of rice.

The police said the accused had stashed away the rice meant for public distribution system in warehouses under the limits of Keesara police station for transporting it to other states and earning easy money.

The police also seized and auto-rickshaw trolley, a two-wheeler and two mobile phones, all worth Rs 8.7 lakh from the possession of the accused.

According to SOT police, the accused Mohammad Ghayasoddin (32), Mohammed Asgar Hussain (24), Mohammed Tabrez (19), Mohammed Bilal (19) and Mohammed Afsar (18) had been carrying on illegal trade of PDS rice. The main organiser is Mohammad Ghayasoddin.

The police said the accused used to make a deal with buyers or rice millers from different States after accumulating 50 tonnes of rice illegally.

The accused along with the seized property were handed tover to the Keesara police. A case was registered under Section 420, 406 IPC and Section 7 of Essential Commodities (EC) Act.
