Hayathnagar: Owners of plots in Pasumamula Sivasai Colony Association on Sunday staged a dharna protesting against land grabbing allegedly by former Nalgonda MRO Konda Surender Rao, who retired this year, along with one Gundeti Venkatesh.
The protestors accused Rao of employing 'gunda' elements claiming to be former naxalites and affiliates of slain naxal Nayeem to terrorise the plot owners, some of whom have already constructed houses, although some of have LRS house numbers.
They said the court had given a ruling in their favour. They claimed that local ACP Gandhi Narayana had visited the land and conducted an inquiry to state that justice was on their side. They alleged that the Hayathnagar police were backing the land-grabbers, and said SI Nagaraju was helping the encroachers build an illegal compound wall during night.
The plot owners apprehended a threat to their lives from the land-grabbers. Among those who joined the dharna were Ratna Chary, Munnayya, Sravanti, Rama Devi, Muralidhar Reddy, Mahender, Shivakumar, Naik, Prabhakar Reddy, Lakshmikantham and Venkat Reddy.
