Ramagundam: In a novel way, instead of imposing traffic fine for people, who are driving without wearing helmets, the Ramagundam traffic police made them to buy helmets near municipal office in Ramagundam on Sunday, as part of 31st National Road Safety Week.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramagundam Traffic CI G Ramesh Babu said that many people are still violating traffic rules despite conducting several awareness programmes on traffic safety. They are not following the rules, despite several either losing lives or losing limbs.
The irony is that people will protect their expensive mobile phones with screen guards but forgetting to take minimum care to protect their lives, Ramesh stated. He reminded an incident in which Itikyala Manoj of Indira Nagar died due to severe head injuries in an accident near Rajesh theatre. Manoj might have escaped with minor injuries if he might have wear helmet on that day, he observed.
The traffic CI stated that their main aim is to prevent accidents and to save people's lives but not to collect money in the name of fines. 'That's why we are taking stringent action against those, who drive without helmet'. The traffic police will seize their vehicle and imposing a fine of Rs 1,100. He requested every two-wheeler driver to wear helmet compulsorily.
