Steps taken to overcome shortage of medicine stocks in State-run hospitals
Telangana Health Department took a major initiative to address the shortage of medicine and drug stocks in all State hospitals.
Hyderabad: Telangana Health Department took a major initiative to address the shortage of medicine and drug stocks in all State hospitals. It decided to implement a real-time monitoring system simplifying the e-Aushadhi application process.
Pharmacists in tertiary hospitals across the State including OGH, Gandhi, Niloufer, MNJ, Sarojini Eye, Government General Hospitals in Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad etc. as well as District and Area hospitals, CHCs, PHCs, urban PHCs were told to update physical stock online on e-Aushadhi website on daily basis.
Only after completing this process the pharmacist can do further activities like issuing medicines to patients and raising an indent for medicines. Also, it has been conveyed that no offline indent would be accepted henceforth, and it should also be done after updating physical stock at the store.
This decision would be implemented with immediate effect and letters to this effect have been sent from Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development (TSMSIDC) to Directorate of Medical Education, Telangana Vaidhya Vidhana Parishad and Directorate of Public Health.
Authorities have stated that a helpdesk module would be made available from July 5 onwards to fix e-Aushadhi application related technical issues faced be any hospital or health centre across the State.
Meanwhile, Junior Doctors Association and Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association have welcomed the modifications to ensure continuous availability of medicine stocks in State-run hospitals and health centres.
Dr G Srinivas, JUDA advisor stated that they have represented to higher-ups a few weeks ago about the acute shortage of emergency medicines, essential medicines, common analgesics, antibiotics etc.
in State hospitals and irregular supply of medicines despite submitting indents on time.
This decision would ensure medicine stocks are up to date and ensure sufficient stocks thus making the job easier for doctors to provide quality treatment to patients, he said.
