Khammam: Mild tension prevailed at the Collectorate here on Friday when a large number of students tried to lay siege to the Collectorate demanding the government to continue post-graduate courses in degree colleges in the State.

However, the alert police officials foiled the students move and a minor tiff broke out between the students and the police officials. The police after clearing the crowd took some of the student leaders into custody. Students from SFI, AISF, PDSU, DYFI and PYL took part in the agitation.

Before the start of the programme, the students took out a protest rally from SR&BGNR College to the Collectorate.

Speaking to media persons, the student leaders demanded the State government to continue post-graduation courses in degree colleges. "The government is creating troubles for students by cancelling the PG courses in degree colleges. The government instead of strengthening is weakening the education system in the State," they alleged.

Student leaders T Naga Raju, Rama Krishna, Azad, Srinivas and others took part in the protests held on the day.
