In the view of COVID-19 crisis, the Telangana government announced five per cent early bird incentive to all the property owners if the tax is paid by May 31. The government also decided to remove with the upper limit of Rs 30,000 per annum.

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao asked the municipal commissioners to increase the property tax collections and encourage the property owners to get the discount. The decision comes after the requests from the property owners and other business establishments to extend the early bird scheme.

Though the early bird scheme is offered before the commencement of new financial year i.e, March 31, the state government extended the deadline to May 31 as the lockdown is extended till May 29.

The state government collects Rs 2129 crore as property tax from the property owners including 30.1 lakh residential, 3.68 lakh commercial and 1.62 lakh mixed-use properties. The GHMC only
