Hyderabad: Telangana said a big 'yes' in unison to the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao joined the countrywide Janata Curfew to fight the Covid-19 spread.

People voluntarily kept themselves indoors and even children did not come out during the day. All lanes and main junctions across the State wore deserted look which displayed the commitment of people to fight the deadly virus.

This had come as a surprise even for the cops. Speaking to The Hans India, they said people are not seen stepping on to the roads right from 6 am and it continued all day.

Roads from LB Nagar towards Dilshuknagar and Koti, from Begumpet towards Secunderabad, Mehdipatnam and Punjagutta towards the IT Hub of HITEC City and Madhapur remained empty.

Similarly, Chaderghat, Abids, MGBS, Nampally, Kachiguda, Lakdikapul, RTC Crossroads, Liberty, Patny, Tank Bund, Bowenpally, Paradise, Karkhana, Maitrivanam, Kukatpally and Financial District have not seen people and vehicular traffic since early morning.

All business establishments across the State were shut down. Sharp at 5 pm residents in large numbers came out into their balconies and housing complexes and expressed their gratitude to all those involved in essential services like doctors, para-medical staff, media, police and sanitation workers by clapping, blowing conch, tapping of utensils and so on.

Medical staff and police deployed at the five check posts at the Telangana interstate border with Maharashtra in Telangana have tightened the surveillance taking the details of the people entering into the State.

However, officials say that besides, Maharashtra, the entry of people from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka remained minimal as all the adjoining states have suspended operating state transport buses from early on the Sunday morning.

Nearly, 65,000 police personnel and 11,000 home guards were on duty across the State during the Janata Curfew. At many places in the Twin Cities and districts, cops have asked people to return to their homes, if they were found moving without any cause of urgency.

However, those going to hospitals were allowed to proceed. All TSRTC buses remained confined to depots and Metro services were suspended.
