Hyderabad: Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) Director Shikha Goel on Sunday said that financial losses in cybercrime cases had declined slightly, while the lien amount had increased following large-scale awareness campaigns conducted across the State.

The TGCSB concluded its October Cyber Security Awareness Month campaign with statewide Cyber Security Night Flash Walks across all police units on October 30 and 31, highlighting the importance of continuous public awareness, collective vigilance and prompt reporting in preventing cybercrime.

Launched on October 1, the month-long campaign involved police units across Telangana conducting various programmes to educate citizens about emerging cyber threats, fraud prevention and safe digital practices.

Awareness activities were organised in educational institutions, public spaces and community gatherings. Special outreach programmes during Bathukamma celebrations, Navaratri festivities and Dandiya events helped spread cyber safety messages among diverse sections of society.

Emphasising that cyber security awareness should not be confined to a particular campaign or month, Shikha Goel said structured awareness programmes were being conducted throughout the year with active participation from police units across Telangana.

Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of Police actively participated in the concluding Night Flash Walks and related programmes, demonstrating their commitment to cybercrime prevention, she added.

Box: Cybercrime losses decline, lien amount rises The importance of sustained awareness, immediate reporting and coordinated financial intervention is reflected in the cybercrime figures for January–September 2025 and the corresponding period in 2026.

Reported financial losses declined by 20.2 per cent, from Rs 1,104.42 crore in January–September 2025 to Rs 881.72 crore during the corresponding period in 2026, a reduction of Rs 222.70 crore.

In contrast, the amount placed under lien in fraudsters’ bank accounts increased by 42.2 per cent, from Rs 183.11 crore to Rs 260.30 crore, registering an increase of Rs 77.19 crore.

The higher lien amount highlights the importance of swift reporting and coordinated action, while the decline in financial losses indicates an encouraging trend in efforts to combat cyber fraud. The figures underline the need for continued public awareness and prompt reporting of cybercrime incidents.
