Warangal: Celebrations commemorating the inauguration of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) witnessed all over the erstwhile Warangal district on Friday. Kakatiya University (KU) campus, the epicentre of Telangana Movement, made it a big occasion.

The KU students led by Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi (TRSV) celebrated the occasion on a big note by cleaning the portrait of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao by Godavari river waters. Speaking at the programme, Vikalangula Cooperative Corporation chairman K Vasudeva Reddy said that Kaleshwaram project is set to change the fate of farmers. Equating KCR with Bhagiratha, a king who brought the River Ganges, personified as the river goddess Ganga, to Earth from the heavens, he said that KCR made it possible with his brainchild Kaleshwaram project.

"During the agitation, through songs we wanted 'Krishna, Godavari rivers divert to Telangana's parched land'. Now we are realising it," Vasudeva Reddy said, lauding the KCR's perseverance in constructing KLIP in a record time. The project would become a beacon for the country, he added.

TRSV leaders B Veerender, Chirra Raju, P KomuraiahDamodar, J Rajender, Sharath Chandra, K Manoj and B Rajani Kumar were among others present.

In another programme at Kazipet, Warangal West MLA Vinay Bhaskar said that Telangana did not witness any development in the combined Andhra Pradesh. Since KCR came to power, the farming sector is getting its due with KCR focusing on irrigation.

Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narender said that Kaleswaram project not only caters to the irrigation needs but also provides water for drinking and industrial needs. He said that KCR proved that he will keep his word.
