Department of Language and Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh had arranged a historical verse drama ‘Prithviraj Raso’ on Saturday evening at Ghantasala Venakteswara Rao Government Music and Dance College.

This story ‘Prithviraj Raso’ was dramatised and presented by Dr. Raman Foundation’s Saibaba Nayamandali, Vijayawada. The main character Canadvaradaya was played by the writer and director of the play PVN Krishna.

Prithviraj Chauhan, was the last independent Hindu king to sit on the throne of Delhi. He came into power at the age of twenty. He spent his life time to unifying the Rajputs against the Muslim aggressors. Prithviraj married Samyukta, the daughter of Jayachandra.

Samyukta was dazzled by Prithviraj’s reputation and fell in love with him. Samyuktha’s father belonged to the rival tribe and hence, disapproved of their marriage. He even tried to insult Prithviraj by arranging a Swayamvaram for Samyukta but Prithviraj with the advice of his chief minister Chandvaradai had taken Samyukta away.

Mohammad Ghori was a Muslim ruler from Afghanistan who had set his eyes on Delhi for a long time. He twice attacked Delhi kingdom but could not capture it because of Pridhviraj. Muhammad Ghori, was once caught, and with the mercy of Prithviraj Chauhan was respectfully released against the advice of his minister. Later Ghori reassembled an army and returned to fight Prithviraj once again.

In that battle Prithviraj was defeated with the conspiracy of Jaichandra. The other main characters were portrayed by LSRK Prasad, Jaichandra by Ch Jagadesh, Ghori by Pilla Nataraj, Samyukta by Surabhi Prabhavathi. The other roles played by P Sai Sankar, Ch Adinarayana Sarma, Dr Venkateswara Rao, Nageswara Rao, P Rajasekhar, S Malik, Nagaraj, Devid and Lakshmi.

Instrumental support was rendered by B Gangadhar on Hormonium, Balasubrahmanyam on Tabla and Ramana on Keyboard. S Venkataraju, GPS Reddy, P. Bhaskara Sarma were in the technical team for the drama.
