Guntur: The first Andhra conference was a landmark in the struggle for creation of separate states on linguistic lines and was also an important event in the history of Telugu people, said UV Rama Rao, former Secretary to Tamil Nadu Governor.

He recalled that the Telugu people had fought for the identity during the colonial period. He was speaking at the 106th anniversary of First Andhra Conference on Sunday in Bapatla. Forum for Better Bapatla Secretary Dr PC Sai Babu said that the first Andhra conference was held in Bapatla on May 26, 1913 and it gave birth to Linguistic State Policy. This conference also gave expression in concrete terms to the need for achieving a separate Telugu province.

Telugu Talli statue in the historical Town Hall in Bapatla was garlanded and rich tributes were paid to the former great leaders, who fought for creation of Telugu Province. Janavignana Vedika leader K Venkateswara Reddy, retired railway engineer B Subba Rao and students participated in the programme.
