Rajamahendravaram: As the Sankranti is only days away, cockfight organisers as well as punters are eagerly waiting for the bloodbath.
Though there is confusion about organising cockfights in the wake of High Court's ban and Police department's warnings, the organisers are preparing arenas in Konaseema, upland and agency areas.
Arenas are coming up in minimum five acres and the organisers are levelling lands for the blood sport. Arrangements made to conduct them even in nights with flood lights, LED machines and swiping machines. The arenas are coming up in Kesanakurru, Polavaram, Godi, Vetlapalem,Uppalaguptam, Gollavilli, Vakalagaruvu, Mummidivaram, Kothapeta, Tuni, Aynavilli, Malikipuram, Jaggampeta and other areas in the district.
The punters across the State mainly from Telangana, including celebrities, witness the lethal sport. During Sankranti all the hotels witness full occupancy. The punters bet crores of rupees in cockfights.
The organisers are mounting pressure on their elected representatives to use their good offices to organise the cockfights, it is learnt.
According to a cockfight organiser, veterinary doctors were hired to check the health of roosters which were being fed nutritious food as well as medicines to enhance their stamina. Diet will be given to the roosters as per the directions of trainers and the training includes daily swimming for its free movement and to fly easily.
Trainers take cocks for walking at 6 am and later they will be given 10grams of pista, millets, 15gms ground sheep meat, cashew, almond and water mixed with Sonti etc.
Meanwhile, urban Superintendent of Police Dr Shemushi Bajpayee has said that there was a ban on cockfights and stern action will be taken against cockfight organisers and on punters also. She appealed to the people to give information relating to cockfights over phone and their details will not be disclosed.
