An army of volunteers made their way to Bottavanipalem Cheruvu on Sunday morning to take up the clean-up drive initiated by India Youth for Society.

Visakhapatnam: An army of volunteers made their way to Bottavanipalem Cheruvu on Sunday morning to take up the clean-up drive initiated by India Youth for Society. Over 100 NCC Cadets, ex-servicemen and employees of Amjur Technologies volunteered the clean- up drive along with others.

As part of the drive, they visited nearby neighbourhoods, including Nagarampalem, Ganesh Nagar and Srinivasa Nagar and Shiva Shakti Nagar and saw pigs roaming freely on the streets as the owner leaves them out due to lack of shelter.

Along with other observations, they found that the works of drainage system were incomplete, some of the residents continue the practice of open defecation and garbage was being dumped at the cheruvu. Volunteers cleared the lake by picking up plastic, clothes and sticks strewn all along the lake area.

The clean-up drive will continue till July 28. NCC cadets, Excise Department Sub Inspector Gnaneswari, Satya Kumar from Amjur Technologies, Vadlapudi Ajit, among others took part in the initiative.
