Chittoor: On the instructions of Joint Collector Markandeyulu, who is also special officer for the Chittoor Municipal Corporation, Municipal Commissioner C Obulesu said that usage of plastic covers was not banned in Chittoor city.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, Obulesu stated that raids were conducted continuously against the shops where plastic covers are being used as against the government orders.

The civic chief lamented that majority business establishments, grocery shops and petty vendors are using plastic bags indiscriminately.

He stated publicity was given in the city over the evils of plastic culture. But a few of them have followed the instructions in keeping their shops free from plastic covers. He further mentioned that he made surprise raids with this staff on Friday in the city and found that there was good response from business institutions avoiding the usage of plastic. Nagar. He instructed Anganwadi worker Jamuna to take active part in keeping her surroundings free from plastic usage. The civic chief complimented the employees of the Anganwadi centre for maintaining good standards and keeping the children in a healthy environment.
