Police identified many country made guns manufacturing household units across the Tamilnadu and Karnataka borders in the district.

Tirupati: Chittoor District police has taken up a special operation to eradicate the extensive usage of country-made guns for wild animal killing across the district. It may be noted that for many decades hundreds of hunters have been using country-made guns on a large scale to kill wild animals like elephants, deer, wild boar and other animals in the forest.

The district has dense forest along the borders of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu state. From many years interstate hunters have been hunting wild animals and also farmers are using these country made guns to kill wild boar and other animals at nearby forest agricultural fields as part of protecting their crops from them. Basically it was a major problem in villages which located nearby forest.

As part of proactive policing District SP Senthilkumar ordered for special search operation for one week to seize country-made guns and other weapons. Following the SP orders, all the five subdivision police have conducted raids on hideouts in remote villages where the chances for keeping the country made guns secretly. MadanaPalli, Chittoor, Plamaner, Puttur sub-division police were involved in the search operation and recovered hundreds of guns from hunters in large scale.

First of all, police have gathered information mandal vise regarding who had the country made guns in remote villages nearby forest in the district. Acting on tip-off police conducted raids on various hideouts where the hunters placed guns as secret. Guns sized details subdivision vice-like Chittoor 49, Palamaner 275, Madanapalli 125, Puttur 54. On the whole police across the district police recovered 503 country-made guns and booked cases against the country made guns manufacturers. In this issue, SP ordered for the deep investigation to eradicate usage of country-made guns for hunting in villages. Because sometimes it was a law and order problem.

In the backdrop, police are deeply digging the details behind of country-made weapons or guns manufacturing units and its owner's links with hunters or any antisocial elements. As well as cops concentrated on how they are doing business with these guns. Police are seriously putting efforts on this issue in order to bring change in villages.

In this connection, SP Senthil Kumar told that in few villages our cops are giving counselling to farmers too. Where the villages located nearby forest there farmers also had country made guns illegally for protecting their crops from wild animals. In fact, it's a crime our cops are educating the farmers in this angle to change their mindsets. He added that on another side we are dealing with hunters and country-made gun manufacturers with iron hands and proceed as per law against them.
