Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress will give more seats to women in the forthcoming elections, says Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy. Addressing the women Congress workshop in Vijayawada on Sunday, he said that his party would give more seats to BC, SC, ST, and minority groups even in general seats along with women.
He said that the Congress will be going to retain its previous strength in Andhra Pradesh. The Centre lost its support among people, he said and quoted the recent election results in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
Though the TDP was formed 37 years ago against Congress, it is now ready to extend support, the PCC president said. The leadership of YSR Congress should realise and extend support to Congress as it is the only party which expressed willingness at national level to accord special status to state, he opined.
Raghuveera appealed Mahila Congress leaders to spread the schemes proposed by AICC chief Rahul Gandhi such as loan waiver for farmers, cash in poor people's accounts and others. Mahila Congress president P Ramana Kumari, AICC leaders Christopher Tilak, and Meiyappan participated in the workshop. He also welcomed the party affairs in-charge Oommen Chandy at party office. The party in-charge spent some time with the leaders and he will take part in the candidates' selection in the next few days.
