Doctors ventire against National Medical Council Bill in Srikakulam
The National Medical Council (NMC) Bill, introduced recently by the Centre to draw guidelines regarding medical education, profession and practice, is a serious threat to public health in India, said doctors and faculty members working in Government RIMS Hospital.
Srikakulam: The National Medical Council (NMC) Bill, introduced recently by the Centre to draw guidelines regarding medical education, profession and practice, is a serious threat to public health in India, said doctors and faculty members working in Government RIMS Hospital.
Opposing the Bill here on Monday, the doctors staged an agitation under the aegis of Indian Medical Association (IMA) district unit and took out a rally in the city by displaying placards.
Speaking on the occasion, the doctors said that NMC would allow a person to practice medical profession after completion of six months bridge course.
The Bill would benefit the corporate sector and led to degradation of medical education standards.
Normally medical education requires 11 years duration for completion of both bachelor, master's degree and specialisation courses but NMC allowed a bridge course, where AYUSH doctors can also work as allopath doctors after completing two years of bridge course.
With this, they asked how the people will get quality treatment. They shouted slogans against the NMC Bill and demanded for its immediate withdrawal.
