Eluru: The CPM has demanded that the state government take steps for immediate release of tribal Ch Durga and others arrested in connection with a land dispute at Padmavarigudem of Buttayigudem mandal in agency area in the district.

The party leaders, A Ravi, DNVD Prasad and P Kishore submitted a representation to District Collector and Superintendent of Police with a request to solve the land issues through talks in an amicable manner.

Addressing the media, the leaders said that the police arrested Durga, CPM mandal committee member in a land dispute between tribals and non-tribals on June 12 and confined to police station during night without producing in court.

Though the land disputes have been continuing for two decades, the police and revenue officials had failed to resolve the issue and acting tough on tribals, they alleged.
