Referring to his overnight transfer to Printing and Stationery department, the former Director-General of Prisons said the decision had surprised him.

Hyderabad: Commissioner Printing and Stationery Department V K Singh said that he now has a lot of free time since the government in a sudden and surprise move transferred him from a department where he was busy round-the-clock to a department which hardly has any work.

Referring to his overnight transfer to Printing and Stationery department, the former Director-General of Prisons said the decision had surprised him. At one point of time he thought of resigning because he felt that he could not achieve what he wanted to. He said he had joined the police service to bring changes in the system, but he could not do so because of several reasons which were beyond his control.

He added that the thought of resignation did not come to him after he was transferred to Printing and Stationery department. This thought has been there in his mind for almost three years. After assessing the latest development in his career, Singh said he felt that he should take up social movements like making Hyderabad garbage-free city even while being in government service.

He said he would be visiting mandals and villages in the state as part of campaign and will create awareness and mobilise support from public to initiate Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Harithaharam, literacy and good governance to public.

Mentioning about the dream of KCR to make Telangana into a 'Bangaru Telangana', Singh said if the government thinks that it can be achieved only by politicians then it was not correct. This would be possible only when the people are made stakeholders and partners in the process. People of the state should support the concept and participate actively in the process, he said.

Replying to a question, he said the Printing and Stationery department has no resources and has become totally outdated. The department has been in losses for long and hence it would be better if government closes down this department as early possible. Singh also said the cost of printing at the press was very high and the income it was generating was very low. There is no work and employees are working only for two hours a day.
