Chagallu: A seminar organised under the joint aegis of Andhra Pradesh Sugarcane Farmers Association and AP Rythu Sangham here on Tuesday demanded that the State government should announce Rs 4,000 per tonne as support price for sugarcane.
It was also resolved to demand the government to open Chagallu Sugar Factory with immediate effect. The association vice-president U Krishna Rao said that the sugarcane farmers were passing through a serious crisis.
With the closure of the sugar factory, farmers and workers belonging to 150 villages had lost their livelihood, he lamented. He said that the farmers and labourers were facing immense hardships.
